JOB SUMMARY

Are you a self-starting individual, with a passion for working with a growing non-profit organization that supports Indigenous peoples experiencing homelessness? The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEHS) is seeking a Policy and Research Writer to support the administrative team with increasing our capacity. The Policy and Research Writer will help to ensure the organization is taking advantage of all opportunities and securing the resources to achieve its mission.

ABOUT US

We are a non-profit and registered charitable organization whose sole focus is to support Indigenous peoples experiencing homelessness with a vision to lead long-term systemic change to better meet the needs of our people living away from home and experiencing homelessness.

Located in downtown Victoria, the Culturally Supportive House (CSH) was designed for Indigenous peoples experiencing homelessness who are seeking a safe space to self-isolate with 24/7 support. The house provides cultural programming, meals, and a Managed Alcohol Program.

This is a Full Time position which qualifies for benefits!

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Gather internal finance procedures, identify gaps, and source external policy samples; compile into handbook form; provide two to three Finance Policy Handbooks for review and reference.
  • Project will require a workplan outlining projected timelines to be submitted to the Executive Director for approval. The Contractor will be required to attend weekly 30-minute check-ins/updates with appropriate staff based on mutually determined convenient times.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum post secondary education of a Bachelors degree required.
  • Experience consulting with non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial procedures is an asset.
  • Experience with grant and proposal writing is an asset.
  • Experience or personal insights working cooperatively with people with disabilities, lived experience, and addictions considered an asset
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations, family support, social services, and Indigenous support services and programs considered an asset

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to multitask and push multiple projects to completion simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and compile into succinct summarization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended period of time (> 6 hours)
  • Ability to complete repetitive tasks (such as sitting)
